The Firefly Watching Tour will start between 5:30PM and 6:30PM, when the air-con van will come to pick you up at your hotel in Puerto Princesa. The driver will take you on a 35 to 45 minutes travel from the city proper to the Iwahig River.
After arriving at the wharf, you will take place in the paddle boat by small group and start your cruise to witness the beautiful sight of the fireflies illuminating the riverbanks of the Iwahig River. The tour takes place on around 1.2 kms of the river where the mangroves are located and where you can spot the sparkling and dazzling insects.
During the tour, you will also get the chance to learn about the constellation of the stars, or about the glowing microscopic organisms, also known as plankton, which live underwater. The tour itself will end around 9:00PM – 10:00PM, when you will be dropped off at your hotel in Puerto Princesa.

The fireflies of Puerto Princesa are famous for being a breathtaking spectacle. This tour will get you right up close to this amazing natural wonder. You’ll be able to enjoy a delicious buffet dinner before you climb aboard a boat and set off on the Iwahig River. As dusk falls and darkness settles, the light show of the fireflies begin. It is only in Southeast Asia where fireflies glow in unison; they are a repeating, glowing beat, as seen through the mangrove trees. The whole line of mangroves and trees will be lit with flashing fireflies, glowing together, and so distinct that it is said that in these parts of the world, fishermen use them as a form of guiding system to find their way in the darkness of the night. Don’t miss the chance to see these breathtaking wonders when you head to Puerto Princesa!
This activity is worth every peso. I booked it day before the activity. We were picked up late though coz the pickup time was stated 530pm but we were picked up around 630 already but thats totally fine. The dinner buffet is yummy, not a stravagant menu but it was okay. In total I love the activity.
Our firefly watching experience was really fun. Our tour guide picked us up in our respective hotels, had a very sumptuous dinner, a very informative lecture and stunning and beautiful firefly watching. It’s really recommendable to try when you’re in Puerto Princesa.
Red, our tour guide, was nice. Best time to visit is during their mating season. August is so rainy. Nonetheless, we all enjoyed the fireflies. No bioluminescent planktons 2 days after the gale warning. Food was great.
Fireflies are awesome. Mangroves are magnificent. Dinner buffet is so good. Firefly watching is so relaxing. Thank you Klook for this wonderful experience. 💛
